Old Capital

This is the Kyoto version of the Homelands photographic series.

After I moved to Kyoto to study to study Japanese, I frequently walked around the old capital with my camera. And I found that there were so many similar left vacant lots like what I had seen in Tainan. I guess it is because the form of 京町屋 is quite similar to the traditional long mansion of Taiwan. Therefore, identical spaces naturally appeared when buildings were demolished or torn down.

In the work series, we can compare the scenes taken in different places under different contexts but in the same composition. Furthermore, the typography shown in each photo also allows us to perceive the people’s life, imagine the history of each vanished building, and further discuss the interaction between people and the environments in different countries/cultures.
